Conditions Helped

An ever-growing number of research studies, clinical reports and case studies have shown neurofeedback training to be helpful in alleviating the symptoms associated with a wide range of cognitive disorders, brain injuries and negative affective states. If interested, I encourage you to look at research on the PubMed database and in open source journals.

Conditions for which studies and/or published clinical data indicate the efficacy of neurofeedback:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Concussion / Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI)
  • PTSD
  • Seizure Disorders / Epilepsy
  • Substance Abuse

Conditions for which there are published clinical reports of the efficacy of neurofeedback:

  • Attachment Disorders
  • Developmental Trauma (history of maltreatment)
  • Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Dyslexia
  • Learning Disorders
  • Migraines
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Sleep Problems
  • Stroke

Conditions for which the use of neurofeedback appears very promising and further study is either indicated or underway:

  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Anger & Rage
  • Conduct Disorders
  • Pre-Menstral Syndrome
  • Tourette’s Syndrome

Neurofeedback therapy should only take place under the supervision of a properly trained professional.

How can neurofeedback treat so many conditions?

All the conditions mentioned on this website have a common denominator: the brain is “stuck” in a dysfunctional pattern. This is why medications often are unable to satisfactorily address many conditions. For example, increasing a neurochemical through the use of supplements or medications, which block a reaction or receptor, does not help the brain achieve its natural state of flexibility and self-regulation. This can be likened to putting a band aid on a wound, but does not address the root issue of what caused the wound. With neurofeedback, the brain gets “unstuck” from its maladaptive state. Over the course of treatment, the brain becomes accustomed to a more optimal level of functioning. This is its natural and ideal state which is free of unwarranted anxiety, pain, confusion, sadness…whatever symptoms are preventing a person from functioning better in life.

Some suggestions for its use are:

  • Wellness enhancement
  • Stress reduction
  • Test anxiety
  • Peak Performance at job or in sports
  • Optimizing your intelligence with improved brain function
  • Enriching your relationships
